Hugh’s Christmas Miracle

Thank goodness the snow and ice has now cleared …… and unbelievably, out of the chaos, a new life has emerged …… in the depths of Worcester at Hugh’s country pile ………
IMG_5888It seems that Hugh had gone out in the garden to see if the snow had caused any damage, but instead he found the body of a tiny and lifeless chick, abandoned by it’s confused mother. First instinct would have perhaps told you that nothing could be done, but not Hugh, he tenderly picked up the chick and gently massaged him for what seemed to be hours, even Darrell said he would have given up.

But then …… slowly the little chick showed signs of life ……….

Still cradling the tiny creature in his cupped hands, Hugh instructed Darrell to fill a hot water bottle with some warm water, fetch one of Hugh’s old sheepskin slippers from under the stairs and a clean cloth from out of the kitchen drawer.

Confident that “Brian” could now hold his own with Hugh looking over him, Brian was placed in the the slipper on top of the hot water bottle and the cloth placed to keep Brian from falling out.

Darrell said it was emotion …… very emotional …… very, very emotional ….. in fact, rampantly emotional!

Then, when Hugh was confident that Brian was getting stronger he moved him in a small incubator ……..
IMG_5862
It’s still very early days, it’s not really the best time for a chick to come into the world ……..
IMG_5869 …… so if he comes through this, it will almost certainly be Hugh’s Christmas Miracle…….
…….and I wouldn't be at all surprised if the Broadway musical, film  screenplay, not to mention the book, the t-shirt and the soft toy hadn’t already been muted …….. The Life of Brian ….. has a certain familiarity and ring to it.

Wow! Well done Hugh!

The film could be called "It's a Wonderful Life." That has a certain Christmas familiarity to it as well.

Mrs. D and I will watch Jimmy Stewart over the holiday period, with a big dollop of emotion.
